Photography

I started in professional photography as a result of my job working for Pete Townshend of The Who (1998 - 2006). My early attempts at live music photography were mostly of The Who as I was lucky enough to tour with them. I was using a basic cheapo camera and the results were pretty hit and miss. Over the years things improved somewhat!

Once I left working for Pete I set out in the big wide world with some decent equipment in hand to capture other artists - a big thank you to The Flaming Lips for letting me shoot the whole of their Hyde Park show soon after. Along the way I've had help, advice and encouragement from a few wonderful photographers who became friends; Tom Wright and someone who became very important to me in my career, Chris Morphet, who continues to provide friendship, inspiration, encouragement and criticism. Both of these great photographers were The Who's earliest allies behind the lens. A huge debt of gratitude goes out to Ross Halfin, one of the biggest names in rock photography, who offered invaluable help and even provided a roof over my head when I needed it.

For over a decade I have supplied a number of top photographic agencies, mainly Getty Images, with entertainment images for syndication as well as taking commissions from bands and individuals. My main photographic interest is live music but I love shooting other areas of entertainment too, particularly ballet, theatre and TV / Radio specials. I'm always looking for new ideas which spark my imagination so if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I've had photographs pubblished in numerous books, newspapers and magazines including Rolling Stone, Billboard, Music Week, NME, Grazia, Hello, Newsweek, NY Times, The Guardian and Telegraph as well as the red top dailies. Amongst these have been a few cover shots, most notable on NME, Guitarist Magazine, In Tune and a cover shot on The Guardian which featured one of my images of Lady Gaga receiving a Brit Award. My photos have also been used for promotional material as well as CD and DVD releases. I have also photographed a number of prestigious events over the years, such as the Brit Awards.

I've been lucky enough to have photographed the top musicians in the world since 2006 and have covered a wide range of tastes and genres from Adam Ant to The Zutons and everyone in between. The list is extensive, varied and ecletic. With this website I'm also going to be selling prints of some of my favourite shots. If you have a favourite artist that I haven't listed, get in touch and I'll see what I have.
