WRITING

BACKGROUND

I was never much of a writer at school. I put that down to my English teacher forever throwing board rubbers at the class instead of teaching us! In 1996 I started a fanzine, Naked Eye, which was dedicated to The Who. This really gave me a bug for writing and the following year I, along with my good friend Andy Neill, began work on a book about The Who. Anyway Anyhow Anywhere - the complete chronicle of The Who 1958 - 1978 was a massive work of researching and writing, taking five years before it hit the bookstores. It sold very well and the response, together with work I was doing with Pete Townshend, really inspired me to write more. In 2010 I authored the book The Who Revealed.

As well as these two books I have had many pieces published as articles in magazines, liner notes for CDs and DVDs and longer essay pieces in prestigious box sets, such as Who's Next / Life House, which was released by Universal in 2023.

I'm a bit of a pipedreamer when it comes to writing. I have plenty of ideas, most of which I talk about too soon and never get around to completing. Saying that, I am working on a couple of ideas at the moment and talking to publishers.

I have recently finished a couple of commissioned pieces which will see the light of day in 2024 and I'm always looking for new work or collaborations.
