2026...and it's only January.

I hate January. It's a month that seems to go on forever. Dark and miserable, this year it's been made worse by the world situation. As a writing exercise, to get me in the groove for working on Volume Two of Anyway Anyhow Anywhere 1979 - 2026, I thought I'd write a short poem. I've not written a poem since school. I was pretty crap at it then. However, it turned from a poem into a lengthy diatribe which I thought I'd share. It's a bit 'moon in June' in terms of rhyming but it turned dark from the very first words. The world is a mess and here is my assessment of 2026 so far:

First he stole Venezuela’s oil

Now the minerals in Greenland’s rich soil.

No concerns over self-determination

He’ll trump that with militarisation.

All in the guise of free speech and security

Destroying lives without a hint of humility.

Demonic democracy, with a high dose of misogyny

Racist and fascist, doctrine in UPPER CASE typography

Autocracy, Plutocracy, Corporatocracy, Kleptocracy,

All these and more, but mainly Kakistocracy.

We all sit back to watch the attack

scared to offend, we stay quiet and pretend

that all is fair game,

as long as it’s done in the name

of capitalism and democracy

and Trump’s twisted ideology.

Diplomacy by bile, vitriol and insult

Amazingly seems to get him results.

As leader after leader sits idly by

Too scared to call out the insidious lie.

Sitting fearfully on their hands

their heads buried deep in the sands.

A Gaza riviera with hotels by the sea.

Ripping away a homeland

from people no different to me.

Turning it into a rich man’s playground

forgetting its historic background.

The middle easts’ shifting sands, destroyed by his tiny hands

Yet on Ukraine he does nothing, an ally ignored,

Europe’s front line but no peace accord.

A Putin apologist.

An extraordinary twist.

From an egotistical President

we all must resist.

But today if you do resist

you may end up pistol whipped.

Or worse, get shot eight times

for committing no crimes.

Homeland Security is only a fallacy,

when killing is encouraged by those in authority.

Brave Americans standing for what’s right,

unafraid of taking up the fight

risk being shot by masked ICE men.

Cowards with weapons,

deployed without reasons

kill innocent people to support Trump’s treason.

He’ll come for us all, under the guise of free speech;

the academics with their polemics,

the teachers and their textbooks

Scientists with their science and libraries with the truths

take a back seat to propaganda repeated,

repeated unquestioned without any proof.

Spewing hatred on Truth Social, neither truthful nor social

A despot in waiting, despite his low rating.

A ‘reality star’ acting out like a Tzar.

The worst President ever, he’s not even clever,

’Do as I say and not as I do’.

If you don’t toe the line, he’ll manufacture a coup.

The so-called leader of the western world,

his diabolical egotistical plan is unfurled.

An isolationist ideologue who just can’t resist

world domination, without condemnation.

He wants to control the western hemisphere

To do that he will scaremonger and instill so much fear.

So eager to please we stand back and appease.

If you dare criticise, your tariffs will rise.

A new world order is here and now,

ushered in by a MAGAlomaniac, with visions most foul.

A devil in disguise

with his fake Peace prize.

A horseman of the apocalypse

instead of horses he uses gunships.

Every word a lie that comes out of his lips,

a media compliant with all of his shit.

Make sure your social history is clear of disapproval

your browser will be checked and end up in your removal.

We don’t learn from history, we’ve seen this before,

Internment and death camps and ‘Jude’ on door.

He needs to be stopped, pull our heads out of the sand

Demonstrate and protest before it’s all banned.

An uncivil war is what he has started, the world is at stake,

of that - make no mistake!

The world sits idly by, too scared to even try

to take him to task, allowing him to bask

in his diabolical scheme, supported by his fascist regime.

He’ll threaten others with retribution, even if they are doing

precisely what as he does at home,

oppressing, killing and screwing.

A king of deflection.

A prince of deception.

Smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand.

Threats to take over Greenland.

It’s there to make you forget all his trials,

corruption, rape and the Epstein files.

All these and more, but mainly Kakistocracy.

Where will it end after he has stifled opposition voices?

Taken away all alternative political choices.

When he’s raped Mother Earth of all of her riches,

turned Europe and others into his silent bitches.

It’ll end with us - Yes, you and me.

He will come for us, just wait and see.
